TRAVEL GRANTS
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT TRAVEL GRANT
Provided by the Irving K. Barber Endowment Fund, this grant provides up to $500 to support travel to conferences for full-time undergraduate students to present scholarly work undertaken at UBC Okanagan.
Are you eligible?
To be eligible for this grant, you must:
- be a full-time undergraduate student of the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science at the time of the application and at the time of the conference
- be presenting scholarly work at a conference and be included in the conference program
- have completed the scholarly work while you were a student at UBC Okanagan
- not have been awarded the undergraduate student travel grant in the past
How to apply
- Applications will be considered ongoing, but your planning should start early. In addition to timelines to successfully book travel, the adjudication process for travel grant applications requires a minimum of 10 business days. Please also refer to UBC’s guidelines on travel expenditures, including Policy 83.

- Fill out the application form and supply all required documentation specified in the below terms.
GRADUATE STUDENT TRAVEL GRANT
This grant supports travel to conferences for full-time graduate students in masters or doctoral programs. Students must present scholarly work related to their graduate thesis research at a national or international scholarly meeting or conference to be eligible. The value of the grant is $500 for Master’s students and up to $1,000 for PhD students. Please also refer to UBC’s Travel Expenditures guidelines.
Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis but must be received no less than one month prior to travel.
Are you eligible?
Full-time graduate students presenting their scholarly work at a conference are eligible to apply quickly up to and including the term in which they plan to travel.
- Applicants must be included in the conference program.
- Travel must occur after the approval of the award. Only expenses incurred within the term of the award are eligible for reimbursement. Appropriate receipts are required (see travel policy).
- Students must be registered in a UBC Okanagan graduate program at the time of the application and at the time of the conference.
- Applicants may receive travel funding once as a Master’s student (up to $500) and twice as a PhD student (PhD students may request support for up to two conferences, up to a total of $1,000 is available).
How to Apply
Complete the Graduate Student Travel Grant Application Form and provide confirmation of participation in the conference, i.e. Letter of Invitation/Acceptance that describes the nature of your participation in the conference (with English translation if necessary).
