Graduate students in the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science are eligible to apply for UBCO-Specific graduate awards as well as awards from the College of Graduate Studies.

Science Graduate Students at UBC Okanagan

Henderson Award in International Development

A $3,600 award is offered by the Henderson family through the Shuswap Community Foundation to an undergraduate or graduate student at The University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus, who is participating in an international health and/or international community development initiative taking place in a developing country, with preference given to an international student. The award is made by Faculty, School or College nomination to Enrolment Services.

HSBC Bank Canada Prize

A $1,200 prize is offered by HSBC Bank Canada in memory of the Okanagan Mountain Park Fire. The prizes are awarded to a student in the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science, or the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, or the Faculty of Health and Social Development, or the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus who has conducted a research project or special initiative that examines the sociological, economical, ecological, environmental, psychological, or health impacts of environmental disturbances (terrestrial, aquatic, marine; natural or human-caused). The prize will be conferred upon a student from each of the following Schools and Faculties in successive years, and in this order: the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science, Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Health and Social Development, and then the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies.

The Graduate Dean's Thesis Fellowship

The Graduate Dean’s Thesis Fellowship (GDTF) is a merit-based fellowship that is available to full-time students in a thesis-based PhD program who are approaching their final term, and who are focused on the completion of their dissertation. This fellowship is intended to provide financial support while students are engaged in the final stages of writing their dissertation. Students may receive the fellowship only once during their degree program. There are four awards available annually.
